effective use of methoxyflurane. We use it now for patients in SSU.
Penthrox (Methoxyflurane) is a fast-acting inhalable analgesic that is used for pain management in adult patients.Learning objectives:

New learning on Moodle!
“Back to Basics” is a collection of ten e-learning modules. Each module has its own resources, quiz and certificate. The subjects have been chosen to accommodate all learners from nurse aides to junior and senior nurses.
The whole course covers 4.25 hours of professional development (CPD).
All references are checked and recognized by the NZNC. However, the information provided is not to substitute the Boulcott Hospital policies and procedures.

Caring for Kaumatua (Elderly Māori patients)- New Course on Moodle
This course
• offers a conversation starter, encouraging health professionals to fully explore the individual cultural needs of kaumātua and their whānau/family
• shares cultural concepts that are relevant to caring for kaumātua and so increases awareness of and sensitivity to cultural needs
It is self-enrolling and has a 11-question quiz. The quiz has unlimited number of attempts and no time frame
A certificate of 1-hour CPD is provided

New e-learning module about Medicine Reconciliation!
Medicine reconciliation is about obtaining the most accurate list of patient medicines, allergies and adverse drug reactions and comparing this with the prescribed medicines and documented allergies and adverse drug reactions.
It has a quiz and comes with 20 minutes CPD.

2025 A New Course on Moodle -"The Elderly Surgical Patient"Welcome to this course on assessing age related issues in elderly surgical patients.
As surgical nurses, we play a vital role in ensuring the best possible outcomes for our older adult patients
This course explores some of the most important physiological changes associated with ageing that significantly impact surgical recovery.
There are resources covering:
- sensory loss
- cognitive impairment
- osteoarthritis and mobility aids
- constipation
- xerosis

This is a course about providing important information and excellent video presentation not only for medical staff but patients as well.

Airvo 3 Training
The e-learning package for the high-flow nasal oxygen (Airvo 3) device is now live on Moodle.
All nurses in PACU and on the Ward & DSS are expected to complete this competency.
Practical training and clinical competency assessment sessions will be run by Fiona and Mike from 13th May onwards (dates to be confirmed).Please make sure you have completed the e-learning package before you attend the practical training & competency assessment session.
You will need to complete the theoretical and clinical assessments before you can use the Airvo 3 on patients.
It is expected that all PACU, Ward & DSS nurses will have achieved Airvo 3 competency by the end of July.

The course is mandatory for nurses and is available on our e-learning platform, Totara (or Moodle), until 1st May 2023.
This module has been bought by Boulcott Hospital and comes as a self-contained package.It does have an assessment that is a must for all registered nurses; however, it does not provide a certificate. To get one, you need to take a screenshot of the result of the assessment and show/give it to Paula Rackliffe (our PACU Team Leader).
Paula is the ANTT Course Manager.I have manually enrolled the nurses.

The hospital is changing out its blood glucose monitors, and it's one blood ketone monitor. We will be using a new dual device which measures both blood glucose and blood ketones. The procedure to get a blood glucose or ketone result is exactly the same, it just requires a different test strip to be inserted in to the monitor.
