Infection prevention and control aims to prevent the spread of infectious agents in the healthcare setting.
Learning Objectives
The objective of infection prevention and control is to interrupt the chain of infection. To interrupt the chain of infection, two types of precautions are used: standard and transmission-based.
This learning module introduces the Infection Prevention and Control Committee of Boulcott Hospital and Specialist Centre and describes the following three key concepts of infection prevention and control:
- The chain of infection
- Standard precautions
- Transmission-based precautions
Learning Outcomes
The participants will be able to demonstrate knowledge about
- The chain of infections
- Infection prevention practices that apply to all individuals in all settings where healthcare is delivered (standard precautions)
- Contact, droplet and airborne precautions (transmission-based precautions)
The required post-test score is 80% or greater
